Observe Hispanic Heritage Month in Retail with Avocados

By September 29, 2021October 21st, 2022No Comments

Beginning September 15th until October 15th, create an avo-shopping experience that embraces Latin culture through food.

Avocados are a key ingredient in Latino culture and are why it’s important to embrace and observe the days from September 15th through October 15th, known as National Hispanic Heritage Month. Interestingly, a recent study from the Hass Avocado board reported that the number of Hispanic and Non-Hispanic households purchasing avocados has grown since 2016, with an increase of +2.0M avocado-purchasing households combined!* That’s why this time of the year is ideal for celebrating and honoring the flavor of Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Here are a few tips on creating awareness with avocados before, during, and after the month!

Tip #1 – Create awareness before September 15th: Use the time leading up to September 15th to communicate to shoppers about National Hispanic Heritage Month. Want to bring the avocado into the conversation? Share tips and advice on eating the avocado, its rich history, and its seasonality. On social media, post about flavorful recipes featuring popular fruits and vegetables, including the avocado. From an avocado chilaquiles torta by Avocados from Mexico or a chicken stuffed avocado from Avocados from Peru’s cookbook, follow the commissions for fun ideas beforehand!

Tip #2 – During the month-long celebration: When shoppers are in-store during this promotional time period, there should be no doubt what your store is celebrating—showcase creative in-store and on social media with Hispanic-themed artwork, images, and video. Bring in bags of avocados on display like our all-new Party Pak bag. Its colorful, vibrant packaging is easy to quickly grab while offering a delightful recipe on the back. Tip #3 – Bring back Hispanic shoppers more: Review how your celebration went. Continue to honor the excitement for Hispanic culture in retail with fun themes, collaborations, and point-of-sale material all year long! Need an extra hand?
