West Pak Avocado’s COVID-19 Response

A Message From Mario Pacheco, CEO of West Pak Avocado, Inc.

In these challenging times, our top priority at West Pak Avocado is the health and safety of our entire avocado family. We also see it as part of our job to help keep Americans healthy. That’s why our commitment to supplying fresh avocados to our customers is as strong as ever.

To confirm that we uphold our responsibility as essential critical infrastructure, we want you to know that we have taken extraordinary measures to combat COVID-19. We adhere to all public health guidelines and have an aggressive plan in place with elevated sanitization efforts and employee and vendor monitoring to guarantee that our facilities remain safe and operational.

Inside of our facilities, a hazmat team deep cleans every night, ensuring our bio sanitary measures are always followed. We’ve installed hand dispensers and additional hand-washing stations throughout our production floors and warehouses. We have also divided production floor workstations with protective plexiglass to enforce social distancing. And, to keep our employees healthy and safe, everybody is screened for signs of flu-like symptoms at the start of each shift. These measures are also applied to our West Pak offices.

In our continued effort to provide fresh, quality avocados, we want to thank our entire family of dedicated employees, our courageous customers who remain open in these times, our growers, and logistics and transportation providers. It’s because of their tireless effort that we can bring the world’s favorite green fruit to tables across the globe.

We are also doing our part to help those affected by COVID-19 and in need. As part of our West Pak Cares committee community involvement program, West Pak is donating pallets of avocados each week through June 2020 to Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino (FARSB), the Inland Empire’s largest and most-efficient hunger-relief organization. The charitable foundation is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks that provides over 4.3 billion meals annually, helping one in seven Americans facing hunger live more secure and stable lives.

FAQs/Common Questions

Since early in this crisis, our team has been closely monitoring the status of this outbreak to quickly address any potential risks adequately and to establish appropriate preventative measures. As part of our Crisis Management and Business Continuity Plan, we have engaged our management team to develop the ability to respond effectively during a crisis of this magnitude. We’ve taken increased preventative measures in all West Pak facilities to reduce exposure.

The health and safety of our avocado family is a top priority, and we at West Pak are following all public health guidance regarding COVID-19. We are regularly reviewing status updates and advisory statements from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health, among other credible sources.

We act quickly and decisively to implement best practices and required infrastructure to be as safe as possible.

We work hard to make sure that we are there for our customers to keep them supplied with fresh avocados. To ensure that we meet their needs, we have enhanced operations in some departments to 24-hours a day. We also work with our grower base to harvest the right amount of fruit when it’s needed, and we are committed to staying competitive for our customers, more so now than ever before.
